The library’s October 8 festival is free, indoors and listed for all ages. The published activities include crafts, a petting zoo and the Sheriff’s Posse horses. For toddlers and preschoolers, arrive near 5:30, choose two highlights and leave while the evening is still going well.

Best big Saturday: Rubber Duck Regatta

The October 10 Harbor festival runs from 11 AM to 4:30 PM with a KidZone, vendors, food and entertainment. The duck race begins at 4 PM, and one free race entry is available per cell phone number while supplies last. Young children may do better with either the midday festival or the race rather than a five-hour visit.

Best daytime Halloween plan: Scare on the Square

Downtown Rockwall’s October 24 event runs from 2 to 5 PM with Boo Booth trick-or-treating, bounce houses and a hay maze. The daytime window is friendlier to early bedtimes, but crowds can build. Take the costume photo before entering, use a small treat bag and agree on one must-do activity.

Best lower-key Halloween-week option: Monstrous Melodies

On October 29, the library hosts a free, 45-minute concert for ages 4 and older with a brass trio from the Plano Symphony Orchestra. Costumes are welcome but optional. This is a good fit for a child who loves music and finds large outdoor festivals overwhelming.

For a flexible fall outing: choose a pumpkin stop

Blase Family Farm runs through November 1 and requires reservations. Huddin Homestead’s fall festival began September 25. Royse City’s downtown pumpkin patch is expected after its October 8 delivery and offers a shorter, free-to-browse option. Confirm current hours, admission and weather plans before driving.

Keep one repeatable plan on the calendar

Rockwall County Library’s early-fall storytime session continues through October 23. Baby Bounce, Walking Ones, Terrific Twos and Preschool Time give families a dependable weekday option when a one-time festival is too much. The library notes that regular storytimes pause October 26–30 and return November 2.
