The best storytime is not the one you can squeeze into the calendar. It is the one that matches your child’s developmental stage and gives both of you a manageable first visit. Rockwall County Library’s fall session begins September 14.
For babies: Baby Bounce
Baby Bounce meets Thursdays at 9:30 AM and is designed for infants through 12 months. Expect music, rhymes, touch and active caregiver participation rather than a long sit-and-listen story.
For walking ones: sensory play and short books
The Walking 1s sessions meet Thursdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM for children 12–24 months. The shorter books, movement and sensory play fit children who are ready to explore but not ready to sit for long.
For ages 2–3: Terrific Twos
Terrific Twos meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:15 AM. Parents and caregivers attend and participate, so choose a place where your child can see you and follow their lead if they need a movement break.
For ages 3–5: Preschool Time
Preschool Time meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:15 AM for ages 3–6. The 30-minute program uses stories, songs, rhymes and silliness to build a more independent library routine.
Make the first visit easier
Arrive a few minutes early, sit where leaving quietly is easy and do not measure success by whether your child stays seated. Listening from the edge, joining one song or browsing afterward can all be good first visits.
