The best Pre-K option is not automatically the one with the longest day, lowest tuition or strongest sales pitch. It is the program that supports the child and remains workable for the family’s real schedule.

Begin with eligibility and calendar

Confirm current public Pre-K eligibility, tuition options, campus assignment, hours and school-year calendar with Rockwall ISD. Ask private programs about year-round care, closures and required notice.

Calculate the complete cost

Include registration, supplies, meals, extended-day care, school-break coverage and summer care. A lower tuition can still create a higher total if the family must purchase additional coverage.

Compare the classroom, not the category

Ask about teacher stability, ratios, play, early literacy and math, outdoor time, rest, behavior guidance, communication and support for individual needs.

Use a one-page family test

For each option, write the actual drop-off and pickup plan, monthly total, closure plan and the top three reasons it fits your child. The tradeoffs become clearer when they are concrete.

Choose the option that works on an ordinary Tuesday in February, not only the one that looks best during the tour.
