The next two weekends have enough Halloween activity to fill the calendar twice. Give each outing one job: costume fun, time together or a change of scenery. Pick one main event and leave space for an ordinary afternoon at home.
Saturday, October 24: Scare on the Square
Downtown Rockwall hosts Scare on the Square from 2–5 PM, with Boo Booth trick-or-treating, bounce houses and a hay maze. Make this your daytime costume outing if a late Halloween night is hard on your family.
Choose the activity your child most wants to try before entering. A small treat bag, comfortable shoes and a meeting point make a busy afternoon easier. Check the city event page for weather updates before driving.
Thursday, October 29: an indoor music option
Monstrous Melodies begins at 6:30 PM at Rockwall County Library for ages 4 and up. Costumes are optional. Check the library calendar for the full program details.
Treat this as an alternative to a crowded outdoor festival. A child who enjoys music may prefer a shared listening experience to moving between booths. Keep the rest of the evening simple.
Saturday, October 31: a festival before nap time
Kiddie Academy of Rockwall’s Fall Festival runs 10:30 AM–1 PM at 1940 N. Lakeshore Drive. The academy plans food, games, a trackless train, bounce house, balloon twisters, face painting and a fire truck. Bring friends and choose a few favorites.
Kiddie Academy supports Raising Rockwall. Event details were supplied by the academy; call 469-745-8300 for admission questions or changes. Allow time to get home and rest before any evening plans.
October 26–30: change the weekday routine
Regular library storytimes pause October 26–30 and return November 2. This is a program break, not a library closure. Browse books during posted opening hours or try a short park visit when conditions suit your family.
Keep an at-home version ready: let your child choose a book, sing a familiar song and draw something from the story. You can keep the routine without keeping the destination.
November 2–3: ease back into storytime
The late-fall library session starts November 2. Confirm the age-specific day and time on the official calendar before leaving. Adults participate with young children.
After a busy Halloween weekend, one familiar weekday activity can be enough. Bring a comfort item, leave checkout optional and aim for a comfortable visit rather than a perfect one.
Keep the weekend manageable
Lay out costumes and backup clothes before the day starts. Let children choose between two realistic activities. Take a family photo early, pack water and decide in advance what will signal that it is time to head home.
One good outing and an easy return home make a better plan than trying to do everything.
